The Littlest Photo Essay

When a kindergartner learns how to turn on a camera:

---

When a kindergartner goes to work with you ... and draws a picture of you in a tie, and you tell him, "Good, but let's make it a little 'louder'" and he draws fireworks, and then a basketball that you have obviously just dunked into a goal, with him looking on in his favorite #8 basketball shirt:

Can't you just hear all the noise?

After all, fireworks can be pretty loud.

Did he build those towers? That's very precise, I'm impressed and I'm borderline obsessive compulsive. Can he come teach my kid to do that?

ok, there's probably nothing more boring than hearing somebody talk about their kids, but ...

my oldest son took these on his own. he's very artistic. he's got a musical ear, but moreso a sharp eye and penchant for drawing. at the same time, he's very athletic and tough. a true renaissance man.

a for-instance ... he went to work with me the other day and was drawing pictures. he drew me with a tie on. he showed it to me and i said, "i like it, but it needs to be a little louder."

meaning, draw some other stuff to go with it.

so, to make it "louder," he draws fireworks shooting off in the sky. you've got to love the literal mind of a child.

then, he added a basketball goal and a ball to show me dunking ... in a tie with fireworks going off.

god bless him.

and, yes, cindy-lou, he's quite adept at building towers.

ok, enough shameless promotion.

the kid on tv in the last pic reminds me of a young ray charles.

you should post the picture of you dunking basketballs with fireworks going off and title it "boom goes the dynamite" like in that Triman post a while back.

Ha! If only Kmart was this week only the world would be a better place. Looks like you've got some talent on your hands brother.

P.S. I found out I'm living on James Island.

taking pictures of the tv screen is really difficult. anyone who doesn't believe me should try it and see how long it takes to get the right shutter speed. trust me on this, your son is a genius.

Quite the composition. I love the lighting on the blocks, and the "K Mart" photo is rife with subdued commentary.

You have reason to brag.

I love it when my kids take things so literally. "Loud" to us may mean more colorful and full of action. "Loud" to a kid means, well, loud!

you know what i like about it, kz? the chaos of it all. he just goes around taking pictures of things he likes. the truth is, he took SO MANY pictures that some of them were bound to come out good. that's one of the first rules of photography ... take A LOT of pictures. the lighting eventually works out.

spo, i posted the picture because i think it gives a glimpse into how a child sees the world artistically, as well.

jake, personally i like k-mart. the whole chaos of that place interests me. what is trying to be exactly? it will always be k-mart no matter what it tries.

so you live on james island. that means you live near one of my favorite beaches, folly beach. i'll be near james island over labor day weekend for a jack johnson concert at the local baseball stadium there.

I don't know where he got OCD from, but I've got to go fix the handle on his bottom drawer.

And would any or all of you like to testify to his genius for his k5 teacher next week? She might want him to sit still and listen or something.

Anonymous is his mom.

did the littlest hobo actually find a home in the end or just keep moving on?

dan said...

i heard the littlest hobo got a job at pizza hut and became the first dog in history to serve pizza.

later, he got quite famous but was caught offering services to monica lewinsky and hollywood are about to do a biopic.
