There You Are And Aren't

You've been here before:

You are the Category 5 hurricane that bears your name.

You are the spider on the intricately woven web of carcasses.

You are the first exhausted marathon runner to warn of the march of the Spartans.

You are Nietzche's mustache.

You are the absolute truism that you can't remember.

You are the one who signs the women's birthday cards, "However old you are, you don't look it."

You are the unforgettable face.

You are the bee who forsakes pollination to sting and tear his body apart.

You are the end of history.

You are ...

The false deity.

The unnatural existence.

The void.

The man who isn't there.

But will be again, because you must.

Very cool, although apparently you just don't know me at all. :)

the words put me in awe.
that picture is both bold and adorable.

I take out of this a terrible wrenching of the heart. That lost, for no understandable reason. It makes me sad, and desperate to hug my kids.

Until the last line.

kz, i think that's pretty accurate. some of us live lives of extremes. neither are satisfying if they are extreme, even the moments where you feel indestructible.

the picture is one my dad took with me and my youngest son, aden, on my shoulders in a hotel elevator a few years back. i feel myself drawn to turning winter pictures black and white, dropping the shadow and then blacking out the rest of picture. i like it.

had it not been for kz, i doubt i'd have understood that post.

i knew it was...heavy. i lack IQ.

like krista, i'm in awe. and i really don't mean that in a sycophantic way. just something to strive for.

It's that "because you must" that gets to me.

Simply amazing... You should get those words and that picture matted for him. He'll really appreciate it someday.

tink, i've printed the picture a couple of times. i think it'll be one of those classics that you look back on as a picture with your pop.

the words, i'm hoping, won't apply by the time he's able to understand such things.

but it's him and his brother that always bring me back, hence the picture.
